Nancy Drew 27: The Deadly Device Hints

What do I do with the little box on the desk?

  • 1 of 9: Maybe you're smarter than me and realized that the "little box" is actually a digital voice recorder.
  • 2 of 9: Two things are required for it to work: it has to be fixed, and you have to have one of the little sound cards with something on it to play.
  • 3 of 9: There's no point in fixing it until you have something to play on it. Keep your eyes open for a little card about an inch square with a handwritten label that says "Journal - Late Fall" on it (though in your inventory, it's labeled "Niko Diary 1").
  • 4 of 9: There are three of these cards to find; you'll find the first one in Ellie's office, and the other two will show up as you move through the game.
  • 5 of 9: Once you have the first card, one of the staff can fix the recorder for you. Look for the most tech-savvy person --
  • 6 of 9: -- who is also the only one even marginally pleasant and willing to help. That would be Ryan, who's in the workshop during the day.
  • 7 of 9: Ryan is very accommodating and agrees to fix the recorder for you, but (of course) she wants you to do something for her first --
  • 8 of 9: -- get her a candy bar from the machine in Niko's office.
  • 9 of 9: Once you've given her the candy, go back to Niko's office, and the recorder will now work. Put the diary card in the top slot and click on the Play button (the one that looks like a triangle pointing right) to hear what Niko had to say to himself.
