Nancy Drew 27: The Deadly Device Hints

How do I use the candy machine?

  • 1 of 9: You'll need the missing piece, which you'll get --
  • 2 of 9: -- from Ryan, when you ask her to fix the recorder.
  • 3 of 9: Once the missing piece is in place, zoom in on it and click on the yellow button in the center to start the process.
  • 4 of 9: As you probably figured out, this is very similar to the old Simon game that was so popular a few years ago. As Nancy says, it's a memory game.
  • 5 of 9: One of the colored pieces beeps, then it waits for you to click on the piece that just beeped. Then it beeps two pieces, and you need to remember and repeat them in order.
  • 6 of 9: Amateurs get a sequence of 7 or 8 notes, which is just about possible to remember; masters get a sequence of 10, which is nasty. If you find this business gives you trouble, grab a scrap of paper and a pencil and take notes -- B for blue, P for pink, O for orange, and G for green.
  • 7 of 9: All the same, you need to write fast. The game is timed, and too long a hesitation from you -- a bare three seconds -- and the game will squawk and make you start over with a new sequence.
  • 8 of 9: You can grab yourself a little extra time here if you play the game in a window rather than full screen. After the sequence plays, click outside the window to freeze the game, and you now have as much time as you need to write down the sequence.
  • 9 of 9: After you take the candy Ryan wanted, the lid will close. If you want some for yourself, you'll have to start over with a new sequence of notes. You can repeat this as often as you want, or at least until all the candy is gone, but the game gets harder as you go along -- the sequences get longer and faster. On master level, it's a real pill. All this for a Lickie Loo?
