Where is this?
1 of 4: After you get off the ice floes, you'll take a new path back to the lodge that will lead you to a sign that says Avalanche Ridge.
2 of 4: If you try to walk past the sign, you'll discover that the snow is very deep, and you'll need snowshoes before you can go further. (Or you can keep going forward and get buried in another avalanche. Your choice.)
3 of 4: When you have the snowshoes, come back to this spot (via the unmarked path at the back of the lodge -- see the Icicle Lodge Map) and put on the snowshoes by clicking on them in your inventory. This takes you past a crater with something interesting next to it --
