Nancy Drew: The Haunted Carousel Hints

What is the purpose of Miles the Magnificent Memory Machine?

  • 1 of 4: At first, it seems like Miles' purpose is to be a snitch, for he informs Joy that you had been snooping around her office when she was absent.  Then it seems like Miles purpose is to be a blabbermouth, for he even has words to say about Joy.  But soon, Joy tells you about her father, and the true reason he built Miles the Magnificent Memory Machine.
  • 2 of 4: Darryl Trent programmed Miles with a series of riddles designed to reconnect his daughter Joy with long-lost memories of her childhood.  Ever since Joy was a little girl, she hated her mother for dying and leaving her.  Trent hoped that as Joy answered the riddles she would come to realize the love her mother and father had for their daughter.
  • 3 of 4: You learn that Joy's mother died when Joy was just four years old, leaving her to be raised by her father.  Her grief manifested itself as anger, and Joy turned against all memories of her mother.  No photograph of her survives, for the young Joy destroyed them all before her father could stop her.  Joy grew up to be shy and quiet, nothing like the personality of her father.
  • 4 of 4: Because of your gentle suggestion to do so, Joy decides to try to answer Miles' riddles, although she doesn't feel that it will do any good.
