Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark Hints
How can I defeat Olgin Hasterean?
1 of 5: First off, note that you don't actually *have* to defeat Olgin or even go anywhere near him. Defeating him gets you 2,000 XP, and killing him gets you several great magic items, but this is optional unless you're on a dedicated "get 'em all" campaign.
2 of 5: You'd think that an ogre mage would be a real wimp, at least in the magic department, but this guy is a *serious* threat. It's nearly impossible to damage him with arrows or bolts once he gets his protective spells up, so tough melee fighters are going to be the best-equipped to handle this. If your character is not such a fighter, you'll definitely want to resurrect and equip Daelan so he can help you out here.
3 of 5: Even without Daelan, a tough fighter wielding the Enserric weapon (see link below) shouldn't have too much trouble hacking Olgin down to surrender status. If this doesn't work well for you, try the usual pre-combat strategies of healing up, drinking enhancing and protective potions, having two well-equipped henchmen with you, etc.
4 of 5: Once Olgin surrenders, you can talk to him about a few things (including the nearby rubble-blocked passage) and then either let him go or kill him.
5 of 5: Letting him go gets you absolutely nothing, not even extra XP, so you might as well kill him and loot his body. Among other great magical goodies, he'll have a powerful weapon of one of your weapon focus types and some Dragon Slippers (boots that add 2 to Dexterity, make you immune to fear and knockdown, and give you a spell resistance of 10).
