Notes and Extras

  • 1 of 5: In the castle, it's a straight shot from the entrance up to the door to the throne room. However, don't neglect to explore and loot the entire area, since there are many driders with treasure on them and many cocoons with useful items, too. Be absolutely sure to get the artifact Assanti (+5 magic shortbow with unlimited lightning arrow ammo) from the drider chief and Risktaker (+8 assassin's dagger of haste) from the drider assassin. Also, the assassin has a large stock of super-powerful poisoned arrows that can be sold (in very small groups) for several hundred thousand dollars.
  • 2 of 5: You can kill Petyr Trenkhold just outside the wizard's tower for a Quarterstaff +3.
  • 3 of 5: In the wizard's tower, search the balor lord's remains after you kill him on level 2 to find a Talisman of Pure Evil (usable only by evil-aligned characters, of course).
  • 4 of 5: An important note about the wizard's tower for spellcasters is that the entire tower is a "wild magic zone," meaning that every time a spell is cast, there's a good chance it'll get randomly switched with a completely different spell. This also goes for "cast when used" items like magic scrolls, and for some powerful weapons (like the Axe of Culling) that automatically cast spells every time they hit something. (This can all be rather amusing until the game crashes, which it frequently did for me when using the Axe of Culling.)
  • 5 of 5: If you have trouble opening the door next to Jansil the Apprentice's room on level 3 of the Wizard's Tower, you can just blow it up with a keg of alchemist's fire from the Lith My'athar Environs region (see following link).
