Identifying the Crystal
1 of 18: This is the main overall quest for this "chapter." You start the Interlude already having it.
2 of 18: Your plan is to travel across the Anauroch Desert in the halfling trade caravan until you get to where Garrick is, but there are two major obstacles along the way.
3 of 18: The first one is a bunch of stingers stealing your guide.
5 of 18: Now you've finally made it to the Ao encampment, which is right next to the ruins that Garrick is allegedly excavating. Journey's over! (Note that you can still talk to the caravan people and buy and sell stuff, and even get a misc. quest from Torias.)
6 of 18: The camp's gate guard will tell you that Garrick crawled in at sunrise, nearly dead. You can find him lying in the temple that's near the NW corner of the camp.
7 of 18: Talk to Garrick and choose a healing option to get him back on his feet.
8 of 18: NOTE: After healing Garrick and talking to him, go talk to Valana about her faith to get a 1,000 XP bonus.
9 of 18: Garrick will identify your tower crystal as one of the ancient Netherese mythallar stones. He will say that the detection of the crystal in the vicinity is probably why some mysterious hooded woman and her demonic horde attacked the excavation site.
10 of 18: He mentions a portal that the woman is trying to get through and urges you to hurry over there and stop her while he stays in the temple and attempts to contact Master Drogan.
11 of 18: Your only essential goal for the ruins is the room with the portal device in it, which is north of the big central hallway. However, there are many other neat things to be found, all of which are covered in the Ao Encampment and Excavated Ruins hint section.
12 of 18: There are several slaadi and Formians fighting outside the entrance to the portal room. If you're not in great need of extra XP, let them kill each other off so you only have to fight a few of them.
13 of 18: Inside the portal room are several more red slaadi plus a powerful gray slaad. After the brief cut scene in which the hooded woman teleports away, you'll have to fight all of the slaadi, so you might want to use your Formian crystal now (if you got it from the Formian queen).
14 of 18: Once all the slaadi are dead, get the Boots of Striding +2 from the gray slaad's remains and then head to the north end of the portal room.
15 of 18: Drogan will finally appear and yak at you a bit about Heurodis (the hooded woman) and how you must stop her at any cost.
16 of 18: After you're through talking to Drogan, you're going to have to figure out how to activate the portal stones so that you and he can teleport after Heurodis and try to stop her from reactivating a Netherese flying citadel.
17 of 18: After the sixth button is pressed, return to the portal room to get things going. Unfortunately, there's a trap involved, and only you and your henchman will make it through.
18 of 18: You'll end up in an ancient Netherese ruin, in which you can find Heurodis and finish the Interlude.
