Neverwinter Nights: Shadows of Undrentide Hints
How do I figure out how many wizards are eating the fruit?
of 10: The best way to solve this one is to draw a picture of four trees on a piece of paper, making them big enough that you can write several numbers on each tree.
of 10: The wizards will be represented with numbers. When you finish, the highest-numbered wizard will also be the number of wizards, and you'll have the answer.
of 10: Since part of the riddle says that each wizard eats exactly two different types of fruit, and no "group" of two trees is eaten from by more than one wizard, you need to go through in a sort of "loop" and constantly ask yourself this question: "Are there two trees on my diagram that don't currently have the same number in them?"
of 10: If the answer is yes, take the next number (start with 1) and put it in the two trees you found. Of course, when you start, all of the trees will be empty of numbers, and you can therefore put 1's in any two of them.
of 10: Once you have the number 1 in two trees, you can put 2's in any two trees except the same two you put 1's in. If you put 2's in both of the trees you put 1's in, that means that wizards #1 and #2 both ate off of those two trees, which violates the conditions of the riddle.
of 10: Keep finding pairs of trees (remember, they don't have to be physically next to each other) that share no common numbers and putting the next number in both until you can no longer do this.
of 10: You now know how many wizards are eating from the trees.
of 10: Exact answer coming up.
of 10: Six.
of 10: You could also calculate the number mathematically using the Combinations principle from basic statistics. You have 4 trees with each wizard eating from 2, so do the combinations of 4 taken 2 at a time (4C2) , which equals 6.
