How can I get past the magical blockade in the laboratory?

  • 1 of 9: You can't.
  • 2 of 9: But trying to pass through the circle of rune stones and being knocked back will get Riisi over to talk to you.
  • 3 of 9: BUG NOTE: You're always supposed to be thrown back by the magical barrier that the rune stones create, but I once got stuck inside the circle. When I finished talking to Riisi, I couldn't move at all. In order to avoid this game glitch, always save your game before attempting to penetrate the magic circle. (If you get stuck and don't want to restore, you could try using your Mystra's Hand ring, though it'll cost you a focus crystal. Or you could check out the cheat codes listed in the main NWN UHS hint file to see what could help.)
  • 4 of 9: Talk to Riisi about the Kobold attack, then ask her how you can enter the lab.
  • 5 of 9: She'll suspect you of being a kobold in disguise and will ask you three riddles.
  • 6 of 9: Which riddle is used for the first one depends on whether you ask for a riddle before she tells of the kobold attack or after. If before, you get the one about the woman and her children. If after, you get the one about counting by nines.
  • 7 of 9: The second and third riddles are always the same.
  • 8 of 9: If you correctly answer the riddles, Riisi will give you three focus crystals, the key to the locked room in the apprentice's quarters, and a Scare spell scroll.
  • 9 of 9: NOTE: You're never allowed access to the lab any further, but I've heard that if you can cast Time Stop, you can get past the magical blockade and look around until the spell wears off. However, I doubt that will get you anything useful.
