Neverwinter Nights Hints
How can I defeat the villain behind all of this?
of 12: First, find the Head Gaoler, since he's being controlled by that villain.
of 12: The villain is the Intellect Devourer (one of the four escaped Waterdhavian creatures), and it's currently occupying the Head Gaoler's body.
of 12: However, don't start fighting the Head Gaoler immediately upon entering his area.
of 12: The first thing you'll want to do is run around and talk to the friendly guards.
of 12: Try to persuade them to snap out of it and run away.
of 12: This is useful because the Intellect Devourer will just jump to their bodies once you kill the Head Gaoler if any of them remain.
of 12: Once all the guards have run off, it's time to kill off the Gaoler. It's way too late to save his life, poor guy.
of 12: The Head Gaoler is another opponent that is super-tough for beginning adventurers without any henchmen, so you'll want to be at least level 4 if you can manage it and have a good henchman with you.
of 12: Remember that you can use your Stone of Recall to teleport away at any moment, heal up and/or hire henchmen, and then pay a small fee to get teleported straight back here (or take the long way on foot).
of 12: Once the Head Gaoler and any guards he manages to inhabit are dead, you need to fight the Intellect Devourer itself in its true form.
of 12: Yes, it's another tough battle, especially since the beast is highly resistant to physical damage. Just keep attacking it (and healing yourself) until the thing's dead.
of 12: Don't forget to pick up its valuable brain afterwards.
