Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer Hints

Resting Tips

  • 1 of 12: When your resting is interrupted, it'll be by a pair of death lords, vampire ancients, or shadows of the void. Those can be very tough battles, especially since the shadows are so hard to hit, and the lords and ancients can keep hitting you for lots of damage.
  • 2 of 12: The vampire ancients are particularly deadly, since they have a special "quivering palm" attack that can instantly kill you if you don't make your reflex saving throw, plus a "stunning fist" attack that can stun you for awhile.
  • 3 of 12: When a rest is interrupted by vampire ancients, immediately have Safiya cast Mind Blank on you to make you immune to the stunning fist attack. Also, equip any items you have that boost your reflex saving throw or universal saving throws so you'll be less likely to die from the quivering palm attack.
  • 4 of 12: Besides all that, there's the danger of your spirit energy getting too low during the rests.
  • 5 of 12: There isn't much chance of being able to rest uninterrupted even twice in a row, but it can happen. If it does, you may have to leave the vault long enough to get your spirit energy back up to 100 using the travel-and-suppress method described in the "A Dark Hunger" hints.
  • 6 of 12: If your spirit craving is very low, you won't have to go do that as often as if it were high. Thankfully, the travel-and-suppress method is good for reducing craving as well as restoring spirit energy.
  • 7 of 12: However, a much better way to deal with the spirit energy crisis is to use the Eternal Rest feat on one of the undead attackers in each battle. That'll get you a huge infusion of spirit energy, plus a brilliant spirit essence or two if the target was near death at the time.
  • 8 of 12: It's tricky to get an enemy to "near death" status and then use Eternal Rest on him before he goes down if everyone is attacking him at once, so you may want to forget about the spirit essences and just make sure you get some spirit energy each time.
  • 9 of 12: If your character is tough enough, he'll be able to take both of the enemies down while everyone else stands their ground out of the way. That'll make it much easier to do the Eternal Rest thing on one of them in a way that gets you some essences.
  • 10 of 12: Also, it may be possible to run around to where one or both of the enemies get interested in hacking on your helpless teammates. That'll give you a chance to attack one of them without having both of them attacking you at the same time. (And it's okay if a teammate goes down, since he'll recover after the battle, and will be fully restored during the next successful 8-hour rest.)
  • 11 of 12: With a bit of patience, you can milk this routine for tons of XP and crafting essences (mainly fire, power, and spirit).
  • 12 of 12: It's not too tedious to get all of your characters up to level 30 this way, though you probably won't want to do it all at once. You could do it for awhile, go do the "Ancient Knowledge" quest, come do this again, go do the Act II, Part 2 quests, come back here, etc.
