Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer Hints
How can I use the Rest menu to get lots of XP and essences?
of 10: While standing anywhere outside in Shadow Mulsantir (or inside the Death God's Vault), hit the Rest key to bring up the Rest menu.
of 10: It should say that it's dangerous to rest there. That's good, because that means there's a chance of some shadow creatures spawning and attacking you during your rest.
of 10: So choose to rest for 8 hours, and see if you get ambushed.
of 10: Your rests will often go uninterrupted. If so, try resting again.
of 10: The more times in a row that you rest uninterrupted, the more likely it'll be that you'll get some creatures to fight the next time you rest.
of 10: Due to the fact that your resting often goes uninterrupted, you'll almost always be in top shape for every battle, making even the ones with the nightwalkers fairly easy. (Though the death knights that you can get inside the Death God's Vault may still be tough to handle.)
of 10: You'll gain XP slowly this way, even if you use the fast battle tips, but you'll gain enchanting essences very quickly.
of 10: Most of them will be volatile, but you can have Safiya combine them with her Shaper's Alembic and then enchant items with them (or wait and sell them to merchants for lots of gold).
of 10: NOTE: If you particularly want power essences, do most of your resting in the Shadow Mulsantir outdoor area. If you really want fire essences, do your resting inside the Death God's Vault.
of 10: You should exploit this gimmick as much as you're ever going to before you do the battle with the spirit army at the end of Act I. After you get the "spirit bar" thing going, all the uninterrupted rests would cost you too much spirit energy.
