Neverwinter Nights 2 Hints

Ancient Book Tips

  • 1 of 14: Even after you've freed the imp, the ancient book can be of use.
  • 2 of 14: However, reading phrases out of it isn't very useful, and can even be harmful.
  • 3 of 14: Note that you can tear pages out of the book to use as scrolls.
  • 4 of 14: Do so until you have seven unlimited-use scrolls that lie about what they do when activated.
  • 5 of 14: As Koraboros told you when you reported after rescuing his imp, one of the phrases in the book is of use.
  • 6 of 14: Experimentation (or hint-reading) will yield the fact that the second phrase is the useful one.
  • 7 of 14: Either read it out of the book or use the torn-out scroll version.
  • 8 of 14: Its effect (whatever it is) seems to only work when you have a summoned creature in your party, or non-party followers such as the Nessian war hounds that Koraboros gives you for Blooden's task. Even then, it doesn't always work. (Though it tends to work more often than not when you have the war hounds.)
  • 9 of 14: If you can get it to work, you'll get 250 XP for finding the best use of the book.
  • 10 of 14: However, that's not the only phrase that I found useful. Try the book's first phrase.
  • 11 of 14: It causes all of your companions to become confused. That's bad, but it's better than having them charmed or dominated by the enemy, so use it if your companions ever get charmed or dominated. (Like they often do while fighting succubi.)
  • 12 of 14: Also, you can use it while standing next to non-hostile characters in order to possibly get your companions to attack them. This doesn't usually do any good, but it can come in handy every once in a while.
  • 13 of 14: For instance, the imprisoned fiends in Jerro's haven can't be damaged, but their servants can. You can kill off friendly servants for extra XP and loot by using the ancient book's first phrase to confuse your companions after you have them stand their ground next to the servants you're trying to kill.
  • 14 of 14: Since the ancient book will vanish when you leave the haven, you'll want to tear out the pages corresponding to whatever phrases you might want to use in the future.
