The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Hints
Is there any way I can influence the outcome of a fight I bet on?
of 10: Not directly. The game won't let you help out the fighter you bet on by healing him or hurting the opposition.
of 10: However, as Hundolin will tell you, the outcome is based largely on luck.
of 10: But that's good news, since you have a Luck stat!
of 10: If it's 50 or more, the fighter for the team you bet on will get more hit points. The higher your Luck stat, the more hit points he'll get -- up to a point (see warning below).
of 10: So after you make your bet and right before you enter the Arena spectator area, increase your Luck stat as much as you can to beef up the guy you're betting on.
of 10: One good way is to visit the Lover Stone or Thief Stone and get a greater power that can be used once a day to boost Luck by 20 points.
of 10: Also, it would help to have the once-a-day power you can get from visiting all nine Wayshrines, and to have chosen the Thief birthsign when you created your character.
of 10: Otherwise, buy or make a spell that will increase your Luck for a short time (keeping the above high-Luck warning in mind), then cast it right before you enter the Arena after making a bet.
of 10: You can also buy or make potions that fortify Luck, though as you can see from the Alchemical Effects list, making them requires an Alchemy skill of at least 50.
of 10: You can also enchant items to have a constant Fortify Luck effect on them (see the Enchanting Tips), or go looking for premade items with that effect.
