The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Hints

How do the stages of vampirism work?

  • 1 of 9: There are four stages in all, each of which has more bonuses, more weaknesses, and a new power associated with it.
  • 2 of 9: When you first become a vampire, you'll be at the first stage. To get to the next stages, refrain from feeding.
  • 3 of 9: Every time you go 24 hours or so without feeding and then sleep or use the wait feature for any amount of time, you move on to the next stage of vampirism (unless you're already at the final stage).
  • 4 of 9: NOTE: Sometimes it can take many more than 24 hours to get to the next stage, especially the final two, but I'm not sure why.
  • 5 of 9: Every time you feed, you jump back to the first stage, losing all the bonuses and powers of the later stages.
  • 6 of 9: If you're not sure what stage you're on, check your magic effects list and see what number is listed with the Vampirism effect. It'll be 25 for the first stage, 50 for the second, 75 for the third, and 100 for the fourth.
  • 7 of 9: As you progress through the stages, you become more powerful, but also more vulnerable to certain things, like fire and sun damage.
  • 8 of 9: Also, you become more monstrous in appearance, and many people will have nothing to do with you. They won't attack you or run away screaming, but you can't talk to them to barter, get quests, etc.
  • 9 of 9: NOTE: If you cast powerful Charm spells and use your Vampire's Seduction power on people to get their dispositions way up, they may talk to you then. If not, you'll have to go feed before talking to them.
