The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Hints

PoisonGrip Arrows

  • 1 of 18: As with the ring, you first create a new enchantment record.
  • 2 of 18: Put "poisongrip" in the "ID" field of the new enchantment record, and leave the "Type" field at its default value of "Weapon."
  • 3 of 18: The first effect we'll put in is the poison effect.
  • 4 of 18: However, after you open up an Effect Item window, you'll find that there's no "Poison" setting for the "Effect" field. But that's what we need!
  • 5 of 18: We're going to have to use the special script effect of the poisoned apples, so choose "Script Effect" for the "Effect" field.
  • 6 of 18: Change the "Area" field to 20, so the effect will have a 20-foot radius.
  • 7 of 18: Down in the "Script Effect Info" section at the bottom of the window, choose "KillMagicEffectScript" for the "Script" field. That's the same script that the poisoned apples use.
  • 8 of 18: Then in the "Effect Name" field just below that, put in some meaningful text like "Deadly Poison."
  • 9 of 18: Check the "Effect is Hostile" box, then click "OK."
  • 10 of 18: Create a second Effect Item window for the next effect, and set the "Effect" field to "Paralyze."
  • 11 of 18: Since the PoisonGrip effect in Morrowind had a range of 20 feet and a duration of 20 seconds, set the "Area" and "Duration" fields to 20.
  • 12 of 18: Click "OK" on that, and then again on the Enchantment window. That finishes up the poisongrip enchantment record.
  • 13 of 18: Now go to the "Items" section and click on "Ammo" to get a list of predefined arrows.
  • 14 of 18: Right-click on any of the arrow records (I always choose one with a low weight) and choose "Edit."
  • 15 of 18: Change the "ID" field to "Arrow1PoisonGrip" and the "Name" field to "PoisonGrip Arrow."
  • 16 of 18: Then select your new "poisongrip" enchantment in the "Enchanting" field.
  • 17 of 18: You can change other fields, such as "Value," but there's no need -- click on "OK" and then "Yes."
  • 18 of 18: Your arrows are now ready, so save the plug-in file and check to see what form number you'll need with "player.additem" to get your new arrows in the game.
