The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Hints
A Risky Alternative
of 8: Instead of waiting to go after Umbra until you can afford the Akavari Sunderblade and/or Apotheosis, you could go without them.
of 8: What you'd have to do is buy or steal several bottles of skooma (see the Skooma List) to take with you for quick bursts of speed so you can keep ahead of Umbra's long sword-reach when she's chasing you.
of 8: Some strong healing potions would also be highly advisable for when she manages to whack you despite your souped-up speed.
of 8: Go to Vindasel and kill off all the weaker critters inside, then save your game and hit Umbra with a Flare spell, preferaby from the start of the passage that leaves her room.
of 8: Quickly chug a bottle of skooma, then run for the dungeon's exit, watching out for the various traps along the way.
of 8: When your skooma dose wears off, chug another one, and so on. You're going to have to keep running, dodging Umbra's sword, and chugging skooma until you make it all the way to the Imperial City's Talos Plaza District.
of 8: TIP: To help dodge Umbra's sword swings, stay in 3rd-person view and jump or at least change direction quickly when you see Umbra closing with you.
of 8: This has allegedly been done successfully by others, but I was never able to make it even on the default difficulty setting, and didn't even come close on the highest difficulty. It's a *much* better idea to put Umbra off until you can use the sunderblade strategy on her. (It doesn't even take all that much longer to arrange.)
