The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Hints

Permanent Bound Armor Tips

  • 1 of 12: At a spellmaking altar, create a cheap Disintegrate Armor on Self spell. (This requires a Destruction skill of at least 25.)
  • 2 of 12: While wearing no armor, cast a bound armor spell that you bought (or custom-made), then immediately cast your Disintegrate Armor on Self spell.
  • 3 of 12: As soon as you're through casting that, bring up your inventory and use repair hammers to repair the damaged bound armor.
  • 4 of 12: If you've got the Shivering Isles expansion, a better way to damage the bound armor would be to use the Amulet of Disintegration. See the "The Coming Storm" misc. quest in the "The Elder Scrolls IV: Shivering Isles" UHS hint file.
  • 5 of 12: NOTE: If your Armorer skill is 75 or higher, you can repair bound items without having to damage them first.
  • 6 of 12: After repairing the bound item(s), you can drop them even though they're still equipped.
  • 7 of 12: If you have enough time, you can quicksave and quickrestore your game to get duplicates of the bound armor item(s) you dropped to appear in your inventory. Drop them, then repeat the save-and-restore process to get more copies to drop.
  • 8 of 12: After the bound armor spell wears off, pick up the bound armor item(s) you dropped to find that they're permanent.
  • 9 of 12: The above method is also useful with the bound armor you can get from Rune Stones. In particular, Reman stones can give bound cuirasses, which is helpful if you want one and your Conjuration skill is nowhere near 50 yet. Just remember that your bound cuirass needs to be dropped before the rune stone spell wears off (which takes awhile).
  • 10 of 12: NOTE: Due to the long duration on the rune stones' bound items, you could go fight a nearby creature or two to get your armor damaged instead of using a Disintegrate Armor spell. This is useful if you're unable to make or cast such a spell.
  • 11 of 12: The bound cuirass and greaves count as heavy armor, and will be every bit as protective as the real Daedric armor equivalents. The other bound armor items count as light armor, but if your Light Armor skill is as high as your Heavy Armor skill, they'll still be as protective as the real Daedric items.
  • 12 of 12: Also, permanent bound armor items can be enchanted just like any other armor. You can make yourself several sets of weightless armor with different enchantments (one set with Chameleon, one with Fortify Strength, etc.) and carry them all with you constantly since they're all totally weightless!
