The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Hints

Great Gate

  • 1 of 14: When you get the journal entry about the Great Gate opening, immediately run for the huge thing and go through it.
  • 2 of 14: Save your game in a regular slot the moment you enter the Oblivion world, since you only have a limited time to close the gate before the great siege engine (which starts out a ways directly to the north) goes through the gate and destroys Bruma.
  • 3 of 14: TIP: Run past as many Daedra as you can instead of fighting them. If you keep going fast enough, most or all of them will be unable to follow you. A good Invisibility or Chameleon effect will help with this.
  • 4 of 14: Your first major task is finding a way to get to the sigil-holding citadel's front door.
  • 5 of 14: Inside the citadel, kill the Sigil Keeper and grab his Sigil Key, then find a door to Vaults of End Times.
  • 6 of 14: Go up the ramp and past a few traps to get to a room with three citadel hall doors.
  • 7 of 14: The one in the SW corner of the room is the one you need to take to continue. Only go through the other two doors (which lead to treasure and restorative devices) if you're sure you have the time to spare.
  • 8 of 14: Go up the ramp past the SW hall door to find a door leading back to World Breaker.
  • 9 of 14: In there, go up the ramps to reach two locked doors to the Sigillum Sanguis, plus another Sigil Keeper running around nearby.
  • 10 of 14: This Sigil Keeper's key is identical to the first one's, and either one will open the Sigillum Sanguis doors.
  • 11 of 14: Head up the spiky and blood-tissue-style ramps to reach the Great Sigil Stone.
  • 12 of 14: Grab it and wait for the gate to close and you to be teleported back outside it.
  • 13 of 14: There may be a few last Daedra to clean up, so run around and help with that. (Also, look around on the ground for a regular sigil stone that you can use to enchant an item.)
  • 14 of 14: Then approach Martin to hand over the Great Sigil Stone.
