The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Hints

Where can I get higher-quality apparatuses?

  • 1 of 7: There are a couple of out-of-the-way places where you can find non-random apprentice-quality apparatuses, but the main way to get superior apparatuses is in random, leveled treasure.
  • 2 of 7: You'll start finding apprentice stuff when you're level 5, journeyman at level 9, expert at level 13, and master at level 17.
  • 3 of 7: Most necromancer and conjurer lairs have several treasure chests that can randomly have apparatuses in them, but the chance of getting one from any particular chest is only 25% at best. And even then, it may not be of the type or quality that you want.
  • 4 of 7: Containers in some other places can have random apparatuses, but the chance of getting one will always be just 10%.
  • 5 of 7: You might find it easier to get your apparatuses from alchemy shops. However, if you're going to do it that way, you'll need to be level 6 to get apprentice quality, level 14 for journeyman, and level 18 for expert.
  • 6 of 7: You can never get master-quality apparatuses from alchemy shops, so you'll have to depend on the above-mentioned necromancer and conjurer lairs for them.
  • 7 of 7: One place you might want to try is Fort Linchal. The chest on the pedestal next to the statue has a 25% chance of giving an apparatus, and the chest up the stairs and to the left has a 10% chance. However, it can still be very tedious to keep quickrestoring and trying again if you're after one very particular apparatus.
