The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Hints
Boots of Springheel Jak
of 16: Get your total value of fenced goods up to 800 gold or more, then wait around in the Imperial City for Amusei to show up. (You may have a much longer wait on this one, so consider looting a few nearby dungeons or whatever while you wait.)
of 16: After Amusei delivers his message, go to Cheydinhal and find Ganredhel's house SE of the town chapel. (It's just south of an abandoned house that you'll be very familiar with if you've joined the Dark Brotherhood.)
of 16: The Gray Fox will send you after the magical boots of a legendary thief named Springheel Jak, saying that his only known descendent is living in the Imperial City.
of 16: Travel to one of the Imperial City's districts that has beggars wandering around (they're marked with red arrows on the world map) and ask a beggar about Jakben.
of 16: You'll learn that the guy's house is in the Talos Plaza area, so go there and find it just SE of the central dragon statue.
of 16: Break in sometime during the day, then search the house to find Jakben. (He'll probably be up in his Private Quarters area.)
of 16: He'll cower before you, and it won't take any persuasion to get him to hand over the key to the crypt that's in the basement.
of 16: Head east from where you enter to get to a locked door, then wait for a vampire on the other side to open it for you.
of 16: Past that is the door to Springheel Jak's tomb area, but you'll have to unlock that one yourself.
of 16: The boots aren't in the tomb, but take and read the diary that is.
of 16: So, Jakben *is* Springheel Jak, kept alive all these centuries by vampirism! That means he's probably wearing the boots right now!
of 16: Go find Jakben again and kill him. (If he doesn't come after you in the catacombs, he's probably in the small area past the trap door that's up the stairs in the dining area in his Private Quarters.)
of 16: Search his body to find that he does indeed have the Boots of Springheel Jak on him.
of 16: Grab 'em and return to Ganredhel's house in Cheydinhal to turn them over to the Gray Fox.
of 16: NOTE: You may want to take advantage of a certain Useful Glitch before you turn the boots over to the Fox. Or you can wait until you get them back during the next quest.
