The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Hints
Step 4: Use the Arrow of Extrication
of 17: Go up the stairs in the huge Ayleid room and approach the giant central statue to get a journal entry.
of 17: Then walk around the room while on the upper walkway to get another journal entry about how the walls look like they were made to be moved.
of 17: Find the locked gate along the south wall of the upper walkway and unlock it.
of 17: Explore the room south of the gate to find that you can't go much of anywhere.
of 17: Past the secret door is a regular Ayleid door leading to another section of the Hall of Epochs.
of 17: Go through one of the openable gates to reach another large room with several Welkynd stones that you can pick up, plus a side area with several treasure chests.
of 17: Find the passage in the NE corner of the room and take it to get to a room with some high-up Welkynd stones. (TIP: Use the Boots of Springheel Jak to help you jump up to where you can grab them.)
of 17: From there, move on to reach a room with another push block in its west wall.
of 17: After pushing that block, go all the way back to the upper walkway in the huge room with the giant statue to find that those movable walls have indeed moved.
of 17: Run north to the spot where you can step on a pressure plate on a narrow bridge-like area.
of 17: Face east while standing on the pressure plate to see the big statue rotate around to face you, and a large keyhole area open up in the statue's belly.
of 17: NOTE: You may not be able to see the statue at all from there if your view distance setting isn't at the max. If this is the case, hit ESC to get the options menu and use the graphic options to max out view distance.
of 17: Quicksave right after equipping a bow and the Arrow of Extrication, then fire the arrow at the keyhole.
of 17: TIP: Remembering that arrows are pulled down by gravity, aim at the spot where the statue's hands are gripping its sword hilt.
of 17: If you miss, you could run get the Arrow of Extrication and then get back into position, but it's much faster to just quickload and immediately try again.
of 17: When you hit the right spot with the arrow, you'll get a journal entry and the statue will rise up.
of 17: WARNING: The two smaller statues on either side of it will come to life and attack you as you approach.
