The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Hints
Canvas the Castle
of 15: To start on this quest, go to the Castle Chorrol Great Hall during the day and talk to Countess Arriana Valga.
of 15: Ask about her investigation after getting her disposition up to 50 to learn that a painting of her dearly departed husband was recently stolen.
of 15: Talk to her about "Gather Clues" twice and "Castle Residents" to get some useful advice on how to proceed.
of 15: She names two prime suspects (Chanel and Orgnolf Hairy-Legs) plus three others who might have useful info (Bittneld, Orok gro-Ghoth, and Laythe Wavrick), and tells you where you can find them.
of 15: Start by questioning the two prime suspects after getting their dispositions up to 60.
of 15: Use the "Gather Clues" topic, and don't accuse either of them yet.
of 15: Then talk to the three other people the countess pointed you to, some of whom may require disposition increases before they'll talk.
of 15: After you talk to all five people, you should know who the guilty painting-snatcher is.
of 15: Chanel said she was taking star readings in the castle courtyard that night, but Orok and Orgnolf both mentioned it was a rainy night.
of 15: That's not enough to make a formal accusation on, so look around for some physical evidence.
of 15: To accuse her, talk to her and choose the "Accuse" dialogue option.
of 15: If her disposition is at least 70, she'll confess and give you the stolen painting.
of 15: After you're through looting all the castle areas you have free access to just because you're doing this quest, go talk to the countess again.
of 15: You can say that you accused Chanel in order to hand over the stolen painting and get some gold and gems as a reward.
of 15: Or you can lie and say that you accuse no one, and then return the stolen painting to Chanel. This will get you a painting of your own in three weeks that you can decorate your house with (if you've bought one).
