The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Hints

Secrets of the Ayleids

  • 1 of 19: In order to start on this quest, you have to finish "Nothing You Can Possess."
  • 2 of 19: Right after you sell Umbacano the carved panel, talk about "Another task."
  • 3 of 19: WARNING: Don't finish this quest until after you completely finish "The Collector" if you want to be able to sell all of those statues to Umbacano. Also, don't start this quest until you're level 25 if you want to get the very best versions of the artifacts involved.
  • 4 of 19: You're to buy a special Ayleid crown from Herminia Cinna, so go find her and make her an offer.
  • 5 of 19: Make this quest active and follow the quest arrow to Cinna, who may or may not be in her house in the SE set of buildings in the Elven Gardens District.
  • 6 of 19: When you ask her about the crown, she'll refuse to sell it to you at any price.
  • 7 of 19: However, she will eventually suggest you go get a similar crown from the Lindai ruins. She'll even give you a key you'll need in Lindai.
  • 8 of 19: So you now have two options for getting an Ayleid crown for Umbacano.
  • 9 of 19: When you turn either crown over to him, he'll say to meet him at the ruins of Nenalata (location 35 on the Nibenay map) in three days' time.
  • 10 of 19: If he's still alive, Claude Maric will show up near the ruins' front door after a day or so, and Umbacano should show up a little while later.
  • 11 of 19: Talk to Umbacano to get him to follow you, then head inside.
  • 12 of 19: NOTE: Both Maric and Umbacano can be killed, so you'll want to either clear out the ruins before they show up, or at least help out a lot in battle.
  • 13 of 19: Umbacano will sit on the throne and wear the Ayleid crown you got for him. What happens then depends on which crown you gave him.
  • 14 of 19: If it's the Lindai crown, he'll be killed instantly. Otherwise, he'll be transformed into an evil Ayleid king that you'll have to fight.
  • 15 of 19: Either way, several walls will slide open, releasing leveled undead that you'll have to fight, too.
  • 16 of 19: Before you go, loot Umbacano's body. If you gave him the Lindai crown, it'll be broken and worthless. However, if you gave him the Nenalata crown and fought him, the crown will be intact and so will a special Staff of Nenalata.
  • 17 of 19: TIP: Don't neglect to get Umbacano's keys.
  • 18 of 19: To leave, find the stairs to the north that lead to a door to the main Nenalata area, from which you can make your way to the exit.
  • 19 of 19: Return to Umbacano Manor sometime and use Umbacano's keys to open his upstairs Ayleid display case and steal back all the statues you sold him. They'll be marked as stolen, but you can sell them to a fence after joining the Thieves Guild.
