The Orange Box: Portal Hints

How can I get an orb into receptor #2?

  • 1 of 13: This receptor is the one that's up on a slanty piece of concrete near the start of the row of lifts.
  • 2 of 13: This one is going to be trickier since there are no more energy orbs in the area -- you'll have to go back to the two orb corridors.
  • 3 of 13: Think about a way to get one of the orbs from the two corridors into this receptor.
  • 4 of 13: You're obviously going to have to use portals, so head on back to the nearest orb corridor to set up your first portal.
  • 5 of 13: Note that you don't need your companion cube, since you won't be trying to travel down either of the orb corridors.
  • 6 of 13: Go to the spot where the orb in the second corridor bounces off the wall, and fire a blue portal at that spot.
  • 7 of 13: Then go back to the ledge that overlooks the main lift room and decide where to place your orange portal.
  • 8 of 13: It looks like you should place it on the ceiling where the receptor is shining its red light, but that won't work.
  • 9 of 13: However, that spot is still useful.
  • 10 of 13: What if the orb were to bounce off of that spot and into the receptor?
  • 11 of 13: Where could you place your orange portal so that the energy orb will do that?
  • 12 of 13: Put it on the slanted concrete surface that's directly across from the receptor.
  • 13 of 13: Then wait for an orb to come through the portal, bounce off the ceiling, and land in the receptor.
