The Orange Box: Portal Hints
How can I get an energy orb into this receptor?
of 12: As with other such receptor rooms, it has a closed door that you'll need to open.
of 12: Follow the short line of blue dots that leads from the side of the receptor room to the top of a nearby pillar.
of 12: On top of the pillar is a standard button post.
of 12: The only way to get up there and press the button is to use portals.
of 12: Fire an orange portal into the wall nearest the button post, as high up as you can get it. (Or fire it onto the stick-out wall that's near the button post.)
of 12: Then fire a blue portal into a nearby wall at floor level so that you can jump through it and quickly press the button before you drop to the floor.
of 12: You'll find that the receptor room's door has a very short timer, after which it closes again.
of 12: Now that you've got that scoped out, find a way to redirect energy orbs so that they'll come toward the receptor room's door.
of 12: There's an extended wall segment near the back left corner of the room that faces the receptor room, so that would be one place to put an orb-directing portal.
of 12: The other place would be on any blackened wall spot where orbs regularly bounce.
of 12: That'll set up a path for an orb to reach the receptor room's door, but how are you going to open the door before the orb gets there?
of 12: There are two ways to handle this dilemma: the standard way and the trick way.
