First Key Puzzle

  • 1 of 15: Start by noticing the squares at the bottom of the puzzle.
  • 2 of 15: Those look like some kind of numbering system.
  • 3 of 15: It's basically a base-3 counting system, where an empty square is "0", a half-filled square is "1", and a filled square is "2".
  • 4 of 15: The numbers go up one as you move to the right.  So the right-most box goes from 0 to 1, 1 to 2, and 2 to 0.  In the last case, the next box to the left also goes up one.
  • 5 of 15: Now, look at the number of teeth on the keys.
  • 6 of 15: That also goes up by one in most cases, but there's also a limit to the number of teeth.
  • 7 of 15: A key with 3 teeth goes to a key with 1.
  • 8 of 15: And count the dots.
  • 9 of 15: The same thing happens -- the number of dots increases by one, except 3 dots become one as you move to the right.
  • 10 of 15: Also, notice the position of the teeth on the keys.
  • 11 of 15: It flips as you move to the right.  That is, if the teeth are close to the center of the tile in one tile, they will be on the far edge as you move to the right.
  • 12 of 15: Finally, the tiles (except for the squares at the bottom) rotate 90 degrees counterclockwise as you move to the right.
  • 13 of 15: Read ahead for piece locations.
  • 14 of 15: One piece was in the pit in the second tier of London.
  • 15 of 15: And the other was in the paraffin cube.
