Where can I get some dynamite?

  • 1 of 22: As with most such things on the island, you will need to manufacture it yourself.
  • 2 of 22: Dynamite is little more than nitroglycerine, prepared in a package that can be detonated a little more safely.
  • 3 of 22: So the first step is to obtain some nitroglycerine.  Well, OK, you have to manufacture that, too!
  • 4 of 22: Nitroglycerin is a combination of nitric acid and glycerin.
  • 5 of 22: No, you won't find either of those lying around, either.  But you can create them from other things.
  • 6 of 22: Nitric acid can be created by distilling a combination of sulfuric acid and saltpeter.  (Thankfully, both of those are available on the island.)
  • 7 of 22: Combine the two (sulfuric acid and saltpeter), and then distill the result.
  • 8 of 22: Now let's combine the nitric acid with glycerine, to get nitroglycerine.
  • 9 of 22: Glycerin is actually a by-product of soap-making.
  • 10 of 22: If you have not already done so, you'll need to obtain some seal fat, and some soda.
  • 11 of 22: Combine the two (seal fat and soda) to get soap, plus glycerine.
  • 12 of 22: Combine the nitric acid and the glycerine to get nitroglycerine.
  • 13 of 22: Nitroglycerine is highly unstable.  Let's see if we can put it into a container that is a bit safer to use.
  • 14 of 22: Putting it in some more stable form (plus one that can be detonated more controllably) is what we need to do.
  • 15 of 22: Perhaps you could mold a container around the nitroglycerine.
  • 16 of 22: What have you got (or used already) that is moldable?
  • 17 of 22: How about some clay?
  • 18 of 22: You can get more clay from the same place as you've gotten it before -- down the path leading from the scarecrow to the water.
  • 19 of 22: For a further hint, try combining the clay and nitroglycerine, and you'll see the resulting "equation" in the combining tray.
  • 20 of 22: It looks like one more item is needed.
  • 21 of 22: It must be some means of detonation.
  • 22 of 22: Add a wick to the combination, to get dynamite.
