What does the first digit's clue mean?
1 of 8: It says "elevator doors."
2 of 8: Maybe it refers to how many elevator doors there are in the Empire State Building.
3 of 8: But you want a single numerical digit for an answer, and there are many more than 9 elevator doors in the building.
4 of 8: Have you noticed that each floor has about the same number of elevators?
5 of 8: Go to the elevator hall on any accessible floor and count the elevator doors.
6 of 8: Be sure to get the ones on both sides of the hall.
7 of 8: There are four doors on each side, for a total of eight.
8 of 8: That must mean that the first digit of the lockbox's combo is 8.
