How can I get inside the basement?

  • 1 of 17: First you'll have to find the entrance to the basement.
  • 2 of 17: Unfortunately, the door to the basement is locked.
  • 3 of 17: Brute force won't work here -- you'll need to find the key.
  • 4 of 17: It won't be possible to find the key unless you have already seen a clue hinting at its location.
  • 5 of 17: The clue is on a photo.  There are several photos around the house, the trick will be in finding the correct one.
  • 6 of 17: The scene shown in the photo yields a clue as to the location of the key.  The scene shown is a view of the inside of the kitchen.
  • 7 of 17: Notice that there is a key in the photo -- it is hanging on the wall...
  • 8 of 17: ...just over some shelves with some other items on it.
  • 9 of 17: If the key had accidentally fallen off the wall, it would likely land...
  • 10 of 17: ...on or inside something on the shelf...
  • 11 of 17: ...such as that pottery jar.
  • 12 of 17: In order to find the key, you will need to find the pottery jar from the shelf.
  • 13 of 17: Once you have found the pottery jar and are in a close-up of the jar, it is still possible that you won't be able to pick up -- or even see -- the key.
  • 14 of 17: Perhaps you'd be able to see it if there were a bit more light available.
  • 15 of 17: No need to look around for a complex source of light, when something simple will do.
  • 16 of 17: It is still daylight outside.
  • 17 of 17: Open the curtains behind the pottery jars.  Once done, you should be able to see the key when you are in a close-up of the pottery jar.  Click on the key to add it to your inventory.  Use the key from your inventory on the basement door to unlock it.  To learn about using inventory objects, read Using the Inventory.
