Sentinel: Descendants in Time Hints

How do I solve the puzzles beside the doorway, on the main building in town?

  • 1 of 28: This building -- and the puzzles that will give you access to the building -- are the ultimate goal of Argannas.
  • 2 of 28: Gaining access to the building will be necessary to retrieve the Argannas crystal.
  • 3 of 28: And, as you might assume, this will be the last puzzle that you will be able to solve in Argannas.
  • 4 of 28: The puzzle is made up of four sections -- four separate puzzles, in a way.
  • 5 of 28: Each one will only be solvable after you have explored various areas of Argannas, and solved other puzzles in those areas.
  • 6 of 28: As you progress through Argannas, and gather information relating to these four puzzle sections, you can either decide to solve that section of puzzle immediately, or simply make note of the information that you are gathering (regarding this particular puzzle), and solve it all at once, after you have finished exploring all parts of Argannas.  Either way, completing the puzzle will be the last thing that you will do in Argannas.
  • 7 of 28: In any case, let's look at the sections that make up the entire puzzle, and see what we can find.  Each of the four sections (two on the left side of the main doorway, and two on the right) consists of a large red button in the upper left-hand corner, then a series of shapes, aligned vertically.  Each section also has a "gate" -- much like the "golden puzzles grids" -- which can be closed and locked, to prevent access to the puzzle.
  • 8 of 28: When you first arrive in Argannas, only one of the gates is open, and able to be experimented with.
  • 9 of 28: The four sections must be solved in order.  That is, like with the "gold puzzle grids", only one will be open at any one time.  And when that open one is solved, it will close and lock, and open another one of the four, until all four sections are solved.
  • 10 of 28: Within each of the four sections, there are eight shapes, loosely divided into two groups of four each.
  • 11 of 28: These shapes should look familiar, if you have done any amount of exploring around Argannas.
  • 12 of 28: Clicking on any of the shapes causes them to "cycle" through a fixed set of five shapes, eventually returning to the original shape.
  • 13 of 28: The solution to each of these four sections of the puzzle is to set each of the eight shapes (within each section) to a specific shape.
  • 14 of 28: If you have set all eight shapes correctly, and in the proper order, you will see the wire "gate" over that section of the puzzle close and lock, another one of the puzzle sections unlock, and a door to the building will open.
  • 15 of 28: If nothing happens after you have selected the eight shapes, then the eight shapes are not set correctly.
  • 16 of 28: They may be the correct shapes, but in the wrong positions...
  • 17 of 28: ... or simply the incorrect shapes altogether.
  • 18 of 28: How can you determine what shapes to select, and in what order?
  • 19 of 28: What happens when you press the red button in the upper left-hand corner?
  • 20 of 28: You should hear a very distinct bird sound.
  • 21 of 28: Where have you seen shapes like this elsewhere?
  • 22 of 28: Have you explored around Argannas at all yet?  If not, do that first.
  • 23 of 28: If you have, then you should have noticed other places where these shapes are displayed.
  • 24 of 28: In particular, on some of the birdhouses placed strategically around the town.
  • 25 of 28: Initially, there will only be two birdhouses that display any of these symbols.
  • 26 of 28: But they will be enough to solve the first puzzle.
  • 27 of 28: Once that is done, you will need to access other areas of Argannas before you will find other clues to the shapes that make up the three other sections of the puzzle.
  • 28 of 28: As each of the four sections of this puzzle are solved, another door to this large building will open.  You will need to open four doors before you will have access to the interior of the building.
