Sentinel: Descendants in Time Hints
How do I finish the shape puzzles on the main building?
of 30: Your first priority should be to solve every one of the golden puzzle grid puzzles in Argannas, thereby opening every possible doorway to every segment of the town.
of 30: If you have not yet done this, you will not be able to continue on this final puzzle.
of 30: Be sure you have checked through the earlier clues regarding the general flow of solving this puzzle.
of 30: Now, if you've done all of that, it's time to get down to specifics. You should have found at least 10 different birdhouses containing the "shape plaques" (those plaques that contain 4 of the shapes found in the final puzzles).
of 30: In addition, you should have found at least 4 birdhouses that had buttons on their posts that, when pressed, would cause the post to rotate, and a bird sound to play. (Note: there are background bird noises constantly going on in Argannas. You will need to differentiate these from the specific bird calls on the four posts with buttons.)
of 30: You may have, in addition, found several birdhouses that have neither a plaque, nor a button that produces a bird sound. These birdhouses are "decorations" only, and can be ignored.
of 30: What else is a part of each of the four puzzles that form the final puzzle, besides the 8 shapes?
of 30: There is also a red button that you can press.
of 30: And that button produces a very specific bird call, also.
of 30: So think about this... the puzzle you are trying to solve consists of two groups of 4 shapes. There is also a specific bird call associated with that puzzle (via the red button). And there are birdhouses that generate bird calls.
of 30: Everything else in Argannas has been sound-related, so it makes sense that this is part of the solution to this puzzle, as well.
of 30: But there are not enough birdhouses with bird-call buttons to match all of the puzzles on the front of this building. So how can we find out which other plaques are related to our puzzle pieces?
of 30: What if the solution to each set of 8 puzzle pieces (i.e., each quadrant of the final puzzle) came from two different birdhouse plaques? And what if there were a way to relate two birdhouses by something other than sound?
of 30: Have you noticed anything else distinctive about the birdhouses throughout Argannas?
of 30: They all have been designed rather uniquely, haven't they?
of 30: Some are square, some are hexagonal, some have very pointy roofs...
of 30: ... why, even their bases are not all alike.
of 30: Yet it does seem that there ARE duplicate birdhouses -- especially the ones with plaques on them.
of 30: So if the bird call that is generated by pressing the red button on the main puzzle can "link" you to a specific birdhouse (containing a plaque of four shapes -- which is one half of each puzzle), and that birdhouse (through its shape) can link you to another birdhouse with another plaque ...
of 30: ... then you'd have two plaques with 8 symbols, all linked to one bird call -- and one red button.
of 30: And that's the answer. For each of the four puzzles on the front of this main building (beginning with the one that is open when you arrive in Argannas -- the upper right one of the four), you will need to first identify which bird call is associated with this puzzle. Do that by pressing the red button.
of 30: Then you will need to find the one birdhouse that, by pressing ITS button, produces the same bird call.
of 30: At that birdhouse, you must make careful note of the 4 shapes on the plaque attached to the post on which the birdhouse stands.
of 30: Then, also take careful note of exactly the shape and appearance of this birdhouse. (You can often get an even better look as the birdhouse is rotating, while playing its bird call.)
of 30: Now find the other birdhouse that matches this one in shape and appearance (while avoid the "red herrings", of course), and make note of the 4 shapes on ITS plaque.
of 30: You can now return to the main building, and -- by pressing each of the 8 shapes an appropriate number of times -- set all 8 shapes (in two groups of 4) to match the two plaques that you just found and noted.
of 30: While there are sufficient hints to find the required plaques (as described above), there is no apparent clue given in the game to determine which set of four goes on top, and which goes on the bottom, when you go to finally solve the puzzle itself. What order might you infer, based on how you gathered the information in the first place?
of 30: Remember that one matching plaque came from a birdhouse that produced a sound that matched the bird call on the main puzzle.
of 30: The 4 symbols from that plaque should be entered in the top half of the puzzle...
of 30: ... and the 4 symbols from the birdhouse related by shape and appearance should be entered in the bottom half of the puzzle.
