Sentinel: Descendants in Time Hints

What do I do with the machines along the inside of the outer walkway?

  • 1 of 33: Since this puzzle may involve quite a bit of trial-and-error, you may wish to save your game here, so that you have a "known point" to return to each time you wish to start over.
  • 2 of 33: How many of these machines did you find?
  • 3 of 33: You should have found 12 of them -- these are the "matching" ones, not including the one that is quite different than the rest.  And initially, it is not active anywhere.
  • 4 of 33: All of the 12 machines appear to be similar.  Experiment with them a bit, to see what you can find out.
  • 5 of 33: It seems that there are two active objects on each of the 12 machines...
  • 6 of 33: The large wheel on the front, which can be turned when you click on it; and the lever at the bottom front of the machine, which can be turned to one of two positions.
  • 7 of 33: Did anything happen when you first clicked on one of the large red wheels?
  • 8 of 33: You should have seen a very brief animation, showing a red light coming on.
  • 9 of 33: Where could that red light be?
  • 10 of 33: Look around the area, to see where that red light is.
  • 11 of 33: You'll discover that the red light is part of one of the two large machines on the inside edge of the moat.
  • 12 of 33: Have you taken a close look at those machines?
  • 13 of 33: Did you notice the pipes that lead down to the moat from each one of them?
  • 14 of 33: Let's see what happens when we begin playing around with the machines.  Try changing the setting on the big wheel on as many of the machines as you wish.
  • 15 of 33: Did anything happen?
  • 16 of 33: No -- didn't think so.  Then the wheels alone probably aren't the answer; it's going to involve more than that.
  • 17 of 33: Next, let's try the levers.  It might be best to go back to a "reset" position (i.e.,. when you first entered level '1'), although you can continue from where you are, if you'd like.
  • 18 of 33: Start walking around the outer walkway, and changing the levers on the bottom of each machine.  It doesn't have to be every one -- but do at least half of them.
  • 19 of 33: What happens when you change a lever to the '1' position on more than six machines?
  • 20 of 33: You should get a cut-scene that shows that something has happened elsewhere on this level.
  • 21 of 33: A cover has opened on the one machine that was originally inaccessible.
  • 22 of 33: It makes sense to go back and check out that machine now, after you've seen the video.
  • 23 of 33: There is only one thing you can do with that machine -- click on the handle.
  • 24 of 33: What happens when you do?
  • 25 of 33: (Be sure that, after you've clicked on the handle, you pan around and watch what's going on around you.  Don't just keep looking down at the machine handle, or you may miss something important.)
  • 26 of 33: The water level in the moat rose!
  • 27 of 33: Apparently, the machine with the single handle can fill the moat.  But what good is that?
  • 28 of 33: After the water in the moat has risen, take another walk around the outer walkway.
  • 29 of 33: Has anything changed?
  • 30 of 33: You should be able to see that when you get to the place where you were directly across the moat from the bank of red switches, there is now a platform of some kind, floating high on the water, and spanning the moat.
  • 31 of 33: Unfortunately, the platform is too high to jump onto.
  • 32 of 33: Perhaps there is a way to put less water in the moat, so that the platform is at a better level to be walked on.
  • 33 of 33: And that is the goal of this puzzle -- to figure out how to get all of the controls set, so that when the water goes into the moat, it does so only to the degree needed to float the platform level with the floor.
