Sentinel: Descendants in Time Hints
How do I figure out how to set the controls correctly?
of 14: The answer to this will take some intuition -- but the answers are there. Be sure that you watch every video animation carefully.
of 14: The key is the two large machines inside the moat. They're the ones that fill and drain the moat.
of 14: But what relationship do the machines inside the moat have with the 12 machines along the outer walkway?
of 14: Do you recall the brief animation you saw, the first time you tried to set the large red wheel on one of the control machines?
of 14: A red light went on next to one of the two large machines.
of 14: Perhaps there is a relationship between the 12 control machines, the two large water-control machines, and the red lights.
of 14: Continue to experiment with the 12 control machines, and as you do, make careful note of the two large machines and their red lights.
of 14: Important: the red lights are a fairly bright "red" even when they are off. Don't be misled by this. When either red light turns out, there is a significant red "glow" around the light that is quite different than the light's "off" state..
of 14: It seems that there is a direct connection between each of the 12 control machines, and one of the large water-control units.
of 14: And that relationship is permanent -- that is, for each time you experiment with the controls and levers, each control unit will "tie" to the same water-control unit.
of 14: To make sure that you can clearly identify which of the 12 control machines are associated with which of the two water-control units, go around the complete outer walkway, and test each control unit by itself.
of 14: Start by insuring that all units are "reset" -- i.e., their large red wheels are all turned to the left, and their levers are all set to the "0" position.
of 14: Then, one by one, turn up the large red wheel on one of the units, and make note of which red light turned on.
of 14: Next, turn off that control unit, and move on to the next. Never have more than one control unit "on" at a time, so there is not confusion about which water-control unit is associated with each of the 12 control machines.
