Silent Hill 2 Hints
Any general help in defeating the different demons?
1 of 6: The number of demons you encounter, their hardiness, and the strength of their attack are dependent on which Action Level you choose. In Beginner they might go down with one shot and a kick, even the bosses; in Hard you have to practically turn backflips to knock out the simplest demon, and even then they'll regenerate if you turn your back.
2 of 6: Once you get into West Silent Hill, there's some in-game hints on demon-fighting. Go to the far northern end of Neely Street, where you'll find a body surrounded by papers. Look at each one in turn to get this guy's secrets for fighting demons -- though since he's dead, you might want to take his advice with a grain of salt.
3 of 6: His hints boil down to three basic rules: 1. Demons are attracted to light and sound. (So turn off your flashlight and radio if you're surrounded.) 2. Don't forget to finish them off. (After they go down, get really close and hit Action to stomp on them to make sure they're really dead.) 3. Run away!
4 of 6: I'd add a couple more: 4. Attack from a distance if you can. 5. Use the fastest weapon you have. 6. Run away!
5 of 6: Here are details specific to the different types of baddie.
6 of 6: Oh, and be aware that I'm not going to tell you every time you might run across a demon. For one thing, some of them are randomly placed; for another, where you find them and how many there are is dependent on what Action level you choose.
