The Testament of Sherlock Holmes Hints

How can I find the other cog?

  • 1 of 11: Switch to Watson to discover that some of the flour from the cut-open sacks has fallen down onto the nearby chest. (NOTE: You could've done this at any time after cutting open the flour sacks in the attic.)
  • 2 of 11: Click on the chest to get a close-up, then notice that some of the flour is visible over to the left.
  • 3 of 11: Watson's idea is to use the flour to figure out which of the chest's number buttons have been used the most. Those'll be the ones that are needed to open it.
  • 4 of 11: In order to spread the flour over the buttons, you'll need some sort of brush.
  • 5 of 11: Get the chest's close-up again, then pick up the paintbrush and click it on one of the small piles of flour.
  • 6 of 11: You can then use the brush on each of the chest's number buttons to find out which three have been pressed the most.
  • 7 of 11: Right after you open the chest, Watson will feel the need to tend to one of the injured men.
  • 8 of 11: After that, you'll need to find the cog Holmes needs, since it's not in the chest.
  • 9 of 11: The wounded men know where it's hidden.
  • 10 of 11: Talk to the man who isn't mute or deaf to learn that it's under the wood next to the fireplace.
  • 11 of 11: Click on the pile of wood that's to the left of the fireplace to get a close-up, then click on the wood to move it aside and find the cog (which Watson calls a gear).
