How can I shut an obelisk down?
1 of 14: Every active obelisk will have a Priest of Order near it to keep it going. It'll also spawn two Knights of Order to help protect the priest.
2 of 14: The obelisk can respawn the knights and the priest when they're killed, so getting the thing shut down can be a real pain if you just go in fighting.
3 of 14: You need three Heart of Order items in order to shut down an obelisk.
4 of 14: Walk up to the obelisk and activate it, then choose to use a Heart of Order with it.
5 of 14: After a heart is used on an obelisk, you'll have to wait a few seconds before you can use another heart.
6 of 14: The obelisk will shut down right after the third heart is inserted, but until then, it'll be summoning even more knights to defend it. Also, its priest will begin the process of reactivating it as soon as it shuts down.
7 of 14: By far the easiest way to do things is to go in with a 100% Chameleon effect on you (preferably via a set of Chameleon Clothing, as described in the main Oblivion hint file's Enchanting Tips). That way, you won't be in the midst of a frantic battle all the time you're there.
8 of 14: First, try to pickpocket the priest. If you can grab his Hearts of Order, you may have all you need to shut down the obelisk. (They usually have at least three hearts on them, but sometimes don't.)
9 of 14: Whether you can get the priest's hearts or not, killing him now will do you no good. (Some electrical force generated by the obelisk will prevent you from looting him while he's being resurrected.)
10 of 14: Instead, sneak-kill the Knights of Order and loot them if you need to get more Hearts of Order.
11 of 14: When you have enough, go insert all three of them in the obelisk as fast as it'll let you.
12 of 14: Sneak-attack the priest immediately after the third heart is inserted so he'll die before he can reactivate the obelisk. (Or it may be easier to kill him right before inserting the third heart.)
13 of 14: Whew! That's quite a process, especially if you don't have the 100% Chameleon effect to help out.
14 of 14: The good news is that you can loot a deactivated obelisk to get some nice leveled items from it. Also, you can sometimes get a powerful crystal staff from the dead priest.
