The Elder Scrolls IV: Shivering Isles Hints
How can I get the amulet? The crux thing is frozen shut!
of 15: You'll need to unfreeze it.
of 15: Those fires burning around it don't seem to be doing the job, so you'll have to find some other way to heat the crux up.
of 15: Tossing fire-based spells at it isn't the way. The game wants you to do something very particular that has to do with fire.
of 15: Looking around, you'll find three large stone braziers on the floor: one in the NE corner, one in the NW corner, and one on the raised flooring on the south side of the room.
of 15: Notice that the one on the raised flooring is lit.
of 15: Maybe that has something to do with the special ritual torch item that's lying on it.
of 15: Try picking up the torch and dropping it on the two unlit braziers.
of 15: This is where things get annoying. You can't take the torch into your inventory, but can only pick it up in grab mode.
of 15: Unless you've had to move a lot of fallen logs or bodies off of treasure so you can pick it up, you probably won't be familiar with grab mode at all.
of 15: So now you need to use grab mode to carry the ritual torch to the other two braziers and light them.
of 15: You don't have to drop the torch on a brazier to light it -- just waving the torch over the brazier will work.
of 15: The catch is that until all three braziers are lit, they'll tend to go out a few seconds after the torch leaves their presence.
of 15: That means you'll have to hurry around with the torch, moving as fast as you can without dropping it, to get all three braziers lit before any of them can go out.
of 15: This isn't really hard once you've practiced using grab mode to carry stuff around, and if your character isn't totally turtle-slow. Keep trying until you get it.
of 15: Or you could use a Telekinesis spell instead of grab mode. This can be useful because you don't have to constantly hold down the Grab key to keep ahold of the torch, and you can use the Use/Attack key to push it out away from you so that you don't have to run right up next to a brazier in order to hold the torch over it. Unless your TK spell has a really short duration, this should work very well.
