Meet the Ebony Warrior at the Last Vigil.
1 of 8: You could attack the Ebony Warrior right away, though that would be seen as an illegal assault. It's best to go along with his "final fight" plan. (Note that you might first want to try pickpocketing some of his cool ebony gear.)
2 of 8: Of course, going along with his plan means somehow managing to reach his incredibly hard-to-get-to mountain hideaway.
3 of 8: Your best bet is to go to Fort Greenwall (a ways north and a bit west of Riften), then head directly east from its southern courtyard entrance until you reach the base of the mountains.
4 of 8: Look around for a non-snowy slope that you can climb using a lot of jumping. You'll know you're in the right place if you have a random world encounter near a large fallen tree.
5 of 8: Go NE from the fallen tree and up the snowy slope, keeping to the right and looking on your right for a wide path that leads farther upward.
6 of 8: Follow that path along until you reach the Last Vigil area, then wait if necessary for the Ebony Warrior to kill off a frost troll.
7 of 8: You can't talk to him, so start the combat off by attacking him.
