The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Game Add-Ons (DLC) Hints
Combat Tips
of 8: It's best to start combat by getting into position to hit him with your most powerful sneak attack.
of 8: Don't forget to equip any gear and drink any potions you have that increase the damage you do with your chosen weapon.
of 8: If you have the Dawnguard add-on, and have chosen to side with the Dawnguard, the best weapon to use will be an enhanced dwarven crossbow. It'll ignore 50% of armor, which will be a huge help with this guy.
of 8: Don't forget to maximize your crossbow's power via smithing and enchanting. The Ebony Warrior was an easy one-shot kill for my level 81 sneaky archer character and his wondrous crossbow (and that was on "master" difficulty).
of 8: If you're not able to quickly kill the Ebony Warrior with sneak attacks, you'll have to put up with him healing himself a lot, and using the fully empowered Unrelenting Force shout to throw you around periodically. You've got to be careful to not get thrown off the side of the mountain, which would probably result in a fatal fall. (Note that you might want to try using your own Unrelenting Force shout to do that to the Ebony Warrior, though it may not be enough to kill him.)
of 8: He'll also be able to do you huge amounts of damage per hit, so you'd better have a *lot* of Potions of Ultimate Healing with you, as well as your very best armor suit.
of 8: If you've done the "Black Book: Filament and Filigree" quest, you might want to get the Secret of Protection and use it to greatly reduce the damage you take for 30 seconds. That could give you the time you need to finish him off. Also, do the "Black Book: The Hidden Twilight" quest and get Mora's Boon, which can be used once to restore all of your health, magicka, and stamina. (Though note that you should have a good stock of "ultimate" potions that'll do that, too.)
of 8: If you've done the "The Ghost of Karstaag" undocumented quest, you might want to use one of your three allowed summonings of Karstaag to help out here. (Note that Karstaag's main usefulness will be to keep the Ebony Warrior on the ground with his "snow storm" effect while you attack him.)
