Rescue
1 of 6: This is one of the two quests that you can randomly get from Florentius Baenius after finishing the "Bolstering the Ranks" quest.
2 of 6: Make this quest active so you can follow the quest arrow to the location where a friend of yours (someone you've done a quest or favor for) is being held by vampires.
3 of 6: Kill off all the hostiles near your captured friend as quickly as possible to make sure they don't kill him, which can sometimes happen (though they'll usually ignore him and come after you).
4 of 6: Once the immediate area is clear, talk to your friend to untie him and get him counted as being rescued.
5 of 6: You may not be done yet, though. You'll also need to kill the vampire who's behind the kidnapping if you haven't already.
6 of 6: Once that's done, return to Fort Dawnguard and report success to Florentius to get a random, leveled weapon or apparel item. If you don't like what you get, you can restore the autosave that was made when you entered the fort and try again. Doing that may also alter which randomized quest you get next.
