Is there any way to get sawn logs cheaper?
1 of 6: You can get them for free if you do a favor for a mill owner.
2 of 6: If you're building a home in Hjaalmarch Hold, and didn't get Thonnir killed on the "Laid to Rest" quest, you can get free lumber from him.
3 of 6: Talk to him about buying lumber, then ask if you can just cut the lumber yourself. He'll agree, and you can then use the mill at the north end of town to add to your manor's log pile. (Note that you'll need to ask Thonnir about cutting lumber every time you visit Morthal to do so, not just the first time.)
4 of 6: Go up the ramp to the lumber-cutting floor and activate the lumber pile to get a log moved onto the saw conveyor, then use the lever that's to the right of the conveyor to saw the log.
5 of 6: Wait until you get a notification about 10 sawn logs being added to your pile, then repeat as many times as you want to get more sawn logs.
6 of 6: If you haven't bought Hjaalmarch Hold's plot of land, and don't plan to do the "Laid to Rest" quest anytime soon, you could befriend another mill owner in order to get free sawn logs. Some known possibilities are:
* Aeri at Anga's Mill (a bit west of Windhelm) => do the "Deliver Aeri's Note to Skald" Windhelm miscellaneous quest * Grosta at Heartwood Mill (a long way west of Riften) => do the "Find Leifnarr" Riften miscellaneous quest
