Money-Making Tips
of 6: Most of the money you get, especially early in the game, will come from selling items to merchants.
of 6: After you finish the first main quest, it's a good idea to continue doing main quests up to the point where you discover Whiterun. You can then use the carriage at its stables to travel around and discover all the other major cities, which will greatly expand the number of merchants you can easily fast-travel to.
of 6: As for getting items to sell to merchants, your two main sources will be loot (from enemies you kill and dungeons you raid) and items that you craft.
of 6: Killing and looting can be very time-consuming and dangerous, so you may want to first focus on making potions and equipment to sell. Doing so will get you valuable practice with your Alchemy, Smithing, and Enchanting skills. (See the Skill Practicing Tips for more details on how to practice those skills.)
of 6: One of the best ways to get materials for crafting is to buy them from merchants. If you're having trouble affording everything you need (such as when you're buying magic items to disenchant), and you don't want to go off on a killing and looting expedition, you can chop some firewood.
of 6: That's kind of slow and tedious, but if you dedicate a game day or two to it, you'll be able to make quite a bit of spending money. A good place to start is Riverwood. You can get a woodcutter's axe from the lower floor of Alvar's house, then go outside and use one of the tree stumps that's next to a wood pile to start chopping wood. After you chop a bunch, sell it all to Hod (who's usually in his house or at the lumber mill), then go chop some more.
