The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Hints
Is there a way to conjure an atronach without having to cast a spell?
1 of 5: There are some magic staffs you can use to conjure atronachs no matter what your magicka count or Conjuration skill level is. (Though note that your Conjuration skill partly determines how many uses the staffs have before they need recharging.)
2 of 5: If you do the first two College of Winterhold faction quests, you can steal a magic staff from a shelf in the Arch-Mage's quarters that can be used to summon frost atronachs. They're even better than flame atronachs at pounding enemies and blocking narrow passageways.
3 of 5: Or you can make your own staff that summons frost atronachs, or even storm atronachs, by using the College's Atronach Forge. See the Midden Activities hints for all the details.
4 of 5: If you can summon flame atronachs with a spell, or have multiple atronach-summoning staffs, you might want to give an atronach staff to your follower so he can use it. That way, both he and you can summon atronachs to help in tough combats.
5 of 5: Note that you can't control when your follower will use the staff, so he may use up a bunch of its charges on easy combats. It might be better to keep it in your inventory until you know a tough combat is coming up, especially if you don't have any filled soul gems handy to recharge it with.
