Midden Activities

  • 1 of 11: There's a dungeon-like area underneath the College building called the Midden, in which you can do two notable non-quest-related things.
  • 2 of 11: You can enter the Midden by using one of two trap doors. One is next to the base of the stairs in the Hall of Countenance, and the other is to the left of the Hall of the Elements' door in the courtyard.
  • 3 of 11: However you enter the Midden, explore it until you find an ice wraith. Use your best weapons, fire spells, and healing potions to help you kill it, then move on until you find a side room with a large circular device that's covered with candles.
  • 4 of 11: That's the Atronach Forge. To get an idea of how it works, read through the book called "Atronach Forge Manual" that's on a table to the left of the forge room's entrance.
  • 5 of 11: The manual tells you what items to put in the forge's offering box if you want to get a summoned (and hostile) atronach when you use the pullbar that's next to the offering box. That's not very useful to do, but there are other things the forge can make for you.
  • 6 of 11: If you haven't done the "Conjuration Ritual Spell" side quest yet, you can only make the items in the basic recipes list. After you get the sigil stone from that quest and put it on the pedestal that's on top of the large skull carving, you can also make the items in the Daedric recipes list.
  • 7 of 11: Explore on past the Atronach Forge to find a draugr to kill and a door that leads to the Midden Dark area.
  • 8 of 11: Cross the narrow stone bridge in the first room, then go up the stairs on the right in the second room. Past a room with an alchemy lab and a couple of skeletons to kill is a room with a Daedric-looking gauntlet on a small pedestal within two concentric circles.
  • 9 of 11: Wave the cursor around the gauntlet's fingers to find that four of them are interactive. (Note that you may have to move around the gauntlet to get interaction prompts for all four.) What you need to do is find four special rings to put on the gauntlet's fingers.
  • 10 of 11: Return to the gauntlet artifact, then activate one of its interactive fingers to get a menu that lets you choose which ring to put on it.
  • 11 of 11: When all the rings are in place, a dremora named Velehk Sain will be teleported in. When he talks to you, you can provoke a fight with him or strike a bargain whereby you release him in exchange for a treasure map.
