The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Hints

Which world encounters are special?

  • 1 of 8: Dragon attacks are among the most dangerous possible encounters, though you can usually find cover from them somewhere nearby. (Note that they can't happen until after you finish the fourth Main Quest.)
  • 2 of 8: You come across a stray dog fighting two wolves. Help kill the wolves, then talk to the dog to make him a follower.
  • 3 of 8: You find some revelers, one of whom walks up to you and talks to you. Offer him a bottle of Honningbrew mead if you have one to get a unique necklace that fortifies your carry weight. (If you don't have any Honningbrew mead, you can pickpocket the necklace from the reveler or kill him for it.)
  • 4 of 8: A guy runs up to you and shoves a magic item at you before running away. When the item's owner approaches, you can return the item or lie and keep it.
  • 5 of 8: You come across a dead treasure hunter. Loot him to get his letter, then go to the randomly chosen dungeon and find the valuable item that the letter refers to. (Note that reading the letter gives you a miscellaneous objective.)
  • 6 of 8: M'aiq the Liar from the previous two Elder Scrolls games can be found standing around. Talk to him to get random, often idiotic comments on a variety of subjects (just like in Oblivion).
  • 7 of 8: If you're level 15 or higher, you could meet a mage who gives you a magic staff and a black soul gem when you talk to him.
  • 8 of 8: There's also a spectral headless horseman encounter you can have if you're on or near a road at night. If you have the stamina to keep sprinting after him (a lot of stamina-restoring potions would help), he'll eventually lead you to Hamvir's Rest. However, you could go there on your own if you wanted to fight its undead occupants and loot the place without having to exhaust yourself on a long chase.
