The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Hints
Looting Yngol Barrow.
of 8: Before you go to Yngol Barrow, you can optionally talk to Birna in her shop in Winterhold. Ask if she gets much business, then ask about the bad deal to get a chance to buy a Coral Dragon Claw from her. You don't need to, though, since there's a duplicate claw inside the barrow.
of 8: Enter the barrow and move along the frozen tunnels until you reach a room with a dead scholar near a closed gate.
of 8: Past the gate, look on the short, round pedestal for a Coral Dragon Claw if you didn't get the one from Birna.
of 8: Go down another frozen passage and across a long, narrow bridge, then go through a door and a gate to reach a crypt area.
of 8: Past another door, go down the left-side passage to reach a room. Watch out for the swinging gate trap at the room's entrance, then move through it to get to a puzzle door.
of 8: When you enter the room past the puzzle door, a powerful spectral draugr overlord named Yngol's Shade will rise up from the throne and attack.
of 8: After you kill it, check the room for loot, including the unique Helm of Yngol that's on the head of the skeleton on the throne.
of 8: Taking the helm will open up the nearby gate, so go through it and up the stairwell to find a door that leads outside. (Note that you could just grab the helm and run instead of fighting the shade.)
