The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Hints

Exactly how can I discover a location using the given directions?

  • 1 of 7: Start by looking up the location you want to go to. It'll have directions on getting to it from some other location.
  • 2 of 7: If you haven't yet discovered the other location, you'll need to check its directions to see what location you need to start at to get to it.
  • 3 of 7: Keep that up until you get to a location that has directions given to it that start at a location that you've already discovered. You can then "backtrack" through the locations to eventually get to your goal.
  • 4 of 7: For example, let's say you want to discover Fort Dunstad. Checking through the location lists, you'll find it in the Dawnstar list.
  • 5 of 7: The directions for getting to Fort Dunstad require you to have already discovered the Hall of the Vigilant. If you haven't, find it on the list to see that its directions start at Red Road Pass.
  • 6 of 7: If you haven't discovered Red Road Pass, check its directions to see that they start at the Windward Ruins. If you haven't discovered them, check their directions to see that they start at the inn in Dawnstar.
  • 7 of 7: So after you discover Dawnstar (by taking a carriage to it), you can then use the given directions to go from there to the Windward Ruins, then to Red Road Pass, then to the Hall of the Vigilant, and finally to Fort Dunstad. That's a bit tedious, but you'll get several locations discovered instead of just one, and they'll be useful in helping you discover even more locations.
