Tales of Monkey Island Hints
Second Course: Nose
of 17: You need something really stinky. Rotting meat is what's called for here.
of 17: If you've been in De Singe's back room, you may think you've got just the thing --
of 17: -- but these severed legs are all far too fresh. You need something really putrid. Does that sound familiar?
of 17: Look at the "Scary Painting" in the bar (at the left, between the door and the dartboard) and ask W.P. about it, then go talk to McGee for details of the Jungle Beast. That sounds like the kind of thing we need, but how to find it?
of 17: It lives in the jungle, and McGee says they leave rotting meat on the altar for it. So go to the altar (from the jungle entrance, take the upper left exit) and use a severed leg on the altar. And zip! --
of 17: -- the Beast whips in, grabs the leg, and leaves. We need a way to track the Beast after it leaves.
of 17: Your best bet here is those fireflies you read about in De Singe's lab.
of 17: What you want to do here is find a way to attract the fireflies to a severed leg, then get the Beast to eat leg and fireflies. Then you'll be able to follow the fireflies. (Hey, it's just a game.)
of 17: The fireflies have a sweet tooth. Did you pick up the bag of sugar the girls knocked down in the bar when they were fighting?
of 17: But the sugar won't stick to the leg; it's too dry.
of 17: Go into the jungle to the well (from the entrance, take the lower left exit, then go up) and put the sugar in the water, then put the leg in the sugar water, ew. Now go put the sweet leg on the altar (from the well, go down, right). Zip! --
of 17: -- and now there's a trail of fireflies to follow. But you can only follow it for three screens (left, left, up) before it seems to run out. Now what?
of 17: Well, I'll just give you this one, because it's a bit of a trick. You can't see the path, but it's there; instead of looking for a path, click on the fireflies, or rather, on the "Firefly-Illuminated Hidden Trail." That will lead you to the beast.
of 17: Okay, we found the Beast. What now? You don't want the actual Beast, presumably because it's actually a plant and therefore not smelly enough.
of 17: Instead, you want that bit of rotting meat that's stuck in its teeth. You could probably pry it out if the silly thing wouldn't keep trying to bite you.
of 17: When veterinarians work on animals' teeth, they generally restrain them and then prop their mouths open. We can't restrain this thing, but perhaps we can do some propping.
of 17: Use the leg lamp on the Beast, then use the hook to take the lion's paw. And that's your smelly item.
