Tales of Monkey Island Hints

So how do I use Hemlock's map?

  • 1 of 15: Once you get the Eye of the Manatee so you can see it, you see that it looks pretty much like the treasure map you got from D'Oro. Use this one the same way.
  • 2 of 15: Except that this one has some differences, doesn't it? Read to the end of this hint for step-by-step directions.
  • 3 of 15: Go to the flat table-like altar (go to the Jungle Entrance, then take the left upper fork) and use the map on it, then start following the sounds.
  • 4 of 15: The first two are easy; bee (down), then monkey (left lower). The next one, however, just shows a cloud puff, and there isn't an exit that just sounds like wind. What now?
  • 5 of 15: This clue isn't audio; it's visual. You need to find out which way the wind is blowing at this spot.
  • 6 of 15: Go into your inventory and use the magnifying glass on the weather vane. This will make Guybrush pull it out and hold it up in the wind. Watch carefully for the POV to change overhead, so you can clearly see which way the weather vane is pointing. Then go that way.
  • 7 of 15: Occasionally this can be confusing, because Guybrush may be facing one way when you pull out the weathervane and another when you put it away. But the overhead view is always the same orientation as the on-the-ground view -- that is, if the arrow looks like it's pointing right when you see it from above, you need to go right.
  • 8 of 15: The next stop after the first wind check brings you to the wishing well. Look at the map again. Do you see something new here?
  • 9 of 15: The map shows a hand throwing a flower into the well. Try that. (If you don't have any, go back into town and take the nose-shaped sconce outside De Singe's door.)
  • 10 of 15: When you get the usual earthquake, go back to following the map. This brings you to a disc-shaped stone in the sand that Guybrush says is a calendar. What now?
  • 11 of 15: You don't have to set it, which is a relief since you can't read it. Instead, all you really need to do is run around in circles.
  • 12 of 15: Stand on the calendar and start walking around on it in a counter-clockwise direction, just as it shows on the map. This makes the stones light up. Keep going until you get another friendly little earthquake.
  • 13 of 15: You're almost there! Two more directions, and you've found the Giant Doorway. The exact directions from the Jungle Entrance are:
  • 14 of 15: Left upper fork to the altar; use the map on the altar.
Down (bee), lower left (monkey), up (wind) to the well; use the flowers on the well.
Right (wind), left (bee), left (wind) to the calendar; walk around on the calendar.
Up (wind) to the Giant Doorway.
  • 15 of 15: From here, go to the right to zoom to the island map. After this, you can just jump to the spot on the map labeled "Giant Doorway."
